Erin Lesinski's Climb for Asthma
As I reach a vast crossroad in my life, I have reflected on all that I have experienced, and realize that there is a whole world to explore! With recently obtaining my Associates Degree and successfully living on my own, I am excited to announce that I have decided to tackle Mt. Rainier and climb the most difficult endurance climb in the lower 48 states! With the help of the American Lung Association of Washington, I am thrilled to pursue a once in a lifetime opportunity, as well as support an important cause to humanity, that personally hits close to home.
Participating in the American Lung Association of Washington's 15th annual CLIMB OF CLEAN AIR, I will be climbing the second highest peak in the U.S. in a two day trek, with the experienced guidance of mountaineering expert, Lou Whittaker. Instead of climbing Mt. Rainier solely for personal reasons, my goal is to raise $3,500 by June 13 to help aid the Lung Association in the fight for lung disease. My family's move to the state of Washington was essentially influenced by health problems that we were experiencing in California. My sister, as well as my Mom were diagnosed with asthma, a lung epidemic that causes shortness of breath, attacks, and the closing of the lungs. Inhalers were an everyday process for them, but the poor quality of air still kept both my mother and sister from fully enjoying life outdoors. Today, I am happy to say that our family has been mountain biking, taking walks, and living life free from inhalers or ventilators! With supplies, shelter, food, and training provided, this climb will be an unforgettable experience and a chance to save lives. I WILL SUCCEED! But only with the help of others. |
